Urdu Poetry- A Dominating Field of Urdu Adab

Urdu literature is largely dominated by Urdu poetry in form of ghazal and nazam. Poets with their beautiful poetry have contributed a lot towards popularity of Urdu poetry not only in sub-continent but all over the world. Urdu ghazals and nazams beautifully depict our culture and tradition. Poets have tried to interpret history, Sofiazim and love in their beautiful words. Some great poets of Urdu include Meer Darad, Ghalib, Anees, Iqbal and many other great names.



 

Urdu poetry is based on various writing styles, which include:   


Ghazal: Ghazal is written in rhythmic way with two liner couplet structure. Minimum of five couplets are required to complete a ghazal. It is considered most difficult form of poetry.


Hamd: Hamd word is taken from Quran which means praise. Hamd is such a poem in which presents praise of Allah.


Naat: Naat is basically a poem which includes praise of Prophet Muhammad (SAW)


Marsiya: Marsiya is sad poetry written on death of relatives and friends. Basically the trend of writing Marsiya started after death of Hazrat Imam Hussain.


Masnavi: Masnavi basically represents poetic romance. It is written in heroic couplets representing   emotion of love, which may be for other human or God.


Nazam: Nazam is considered as the major part of Urdu poetry. Nazams cover almost every aspect of life including common life, national issues, culture, tradition and thinking of a common man.


Some other forms of poetry include Qasida, Qawwali, Rubai, Tazkira and Shayari. Urdu poets have given words to their thinking in these styles of Urdu poetry.

Some prominent poets Urdu poetry include Allama Iqbal, Meer Taki Meer, Ghalib, Ahmed Fraz, Amjad Islam Amjad and many other such great names. These poets are famous for their classic poetry around the globe. Their contribution towards the development of Urdu Poetry and Urdu Adab is really admirable.

Collection of Great Islamic Urdu Novels

Urdu Adab includes versatile writings from great writers of Urdu language. Urdu poetry, novels, stories and Islamic novels by professional writers are famous around the globe. As Urdu language was evolved with advent of Islam in sub-continent. So you can find many historic Islamic novels in Urdu. Here is the list of some Islamic historic novels:
•           Palay Khan
This novel is about life and struggle of Palay Shah Khosti. It is written by Gulshan Nanda, a famous Urdu writer. Palay Shah belonged to Khosti Syed Tribe of Zhob, which was later migrated to Pakistan Baluchistan. He fought against British rule in 1930 and never gave up in agreement with British. So Gulshan wrote this novel as an auto biography of Palay Khan. Later on PTV Quetta center produces a drama serial on this novel.


•           Dastan Iman Faroshon Ki
Dastan Iman Faroshon ki is a series of stories written about Sultan Salahuddin. This series is written by Inayatullah Altamash, known to be one of the best writers of Urdu Adab. Salahuddin Ayubi was the man who fought for twenty years against Crusaders.



•           Ek Qatra Khoon
Ek Qatra khoon is a great novel written by Ismat Chugtai. The novel describes the battle of Karbala, a significant event of Islamic history. The story highlights the struggle of Imam Hussein for truth and Islam.


•           Rajkumari
Rajkumari is a beautiful piece of writing by Karam Haasain. The story is about battle against dictator King of Assam Raja Krishan. It basically represents brutality of Hindu Pandits. It also includes story of a Princess ChandraKant who was the daughter of King of Assam. The novel overall is quite informative and interesting.


•           Ahmad Shah Abdali
Ahmad Shah Abdali is basically an autobiography of great Muslim ruler Ahmad Shah Abdali. The novel is written by Aslam Rahi, famous Urdu writer. The short historic story shows hoe Ahmad Shah Abdali became ruler of Afghanistan from a prisoner.



These are some novels from huge list of Islamic Urdu novels, but they are really worth reading. Such great writings are contributing towards popularity of Urdu Adab all over the world.
